Assignment 1-Typographical poster

For assignment 1, we need to do a 1Malaysia typographical poster.
We can choose one of the following themes for our poster: Food, Festivals, Clothings, Faces or Icons/Symbols.
Here are the ways use for making the poster.

I am using Adobe Illustrator, so create a new file and name it as "1Malaysia poster". Size used is in A4. Other option we will leave it as it is. Then, click OK.

Here is the page we are going to work on.
I made a circle to make sure it is not too focus on the center. This is just a guide and will be deleted later.
This is where I start drawing the box for the flag using "Rectangle Tool".
Here I use the "Star Tool" to make the 14-sided star.
The results of the boxes and star.
To create the crescent moon I use "Pathfinder". I draw 2 circle where 1 is in black colour and the other is just the circle. Overlap the black one on the circle like in the picture above.
Select both circles, go to Windows > Pathfinder. A box will opens up like the above.
In Pathfinder, select Minus back (the last icon in pathfinder).
This will result in forming the crescent moon for the flag.
By placing the moon, star and boxes of the flag lines in order, we get this; the Malaysian flag.
Then I trace the number "1" icon/symbol in Illustrator with the "Pen Tool".
After that I fill colour using "Live Paint Bucket" and "Eyedropper Tool".
Same goes for the number "1" icon/symbol.
Here I wanted to use the heart shapes in "Brushes", so I open up Borders_Novelty (a type of brush which create heart shapes). Pull out the heart shape and arrange it in whatever way I wanted.
Then put in the typo into the poster.
This is about the typo placement but it will change later to suit the background and other elements.
Since the font (before this) does not really suit the image, I change it to a more simple font and use "Free Transform" to make it vertical. I also add more words to reflect 1Malaysia concept.
For the background, I "Live Trace" an image of the KLCC Twin Tower and also change the color of the trace. I found the image online as a reference for tracing.
The outcome of the tracing is it forms a nice scenery of the KLCC.
Finally, I open all layers and compose my work.
This is the end product of the "1Malaysia" poster. Assignment 1 completed.

Assignment 1- 1Malaysia poster (SKETCHES)

Here are the sketches before I start doing the poster. It is more complex at first but I simplify it a little.

The first sketch and ideas which is quite complicated.
Second sketch which is simplify.

It will be a little different then the sketch but I hope it will turn out well.
